About TOL Teacher Certification Unit
The Tohono O’odham Language Teacher Certificate is designed specifically for non-degreed language experts who have an interest in teaching the Tohono O’odham language in a classroom setting. Interested applicants will take a language proficiency exam that measures their ability to read, write, teach and speak the Tohono O’odham language. All passing applicants will earn the Tohono O’odham Language Teacher Certificate and have an opportunity to apply for the PreK-12 Native Language Teacher Certificate through the Arizona Department of Education. Certification through the state allows proficient language speakers to apply to teach their Native language in a public school system as a certified teacher.
