Pedestrian Safety is everyone’s responsibility and with the October 4th event fast approaching the Tohono O’odham Nation Department of Public Safety would like to share safety tips for all who will be participating in their pilgrimage and for those who will be traveling through the Nation.
Walking Safety Tips
- If there is no sidewalk, walk facing traffic and as far from traffic as possible
- Be Aware of Surroundings
- Support Vehicles at Designated Stops
Driver Safety Tips
- Look out for pedestrians everywhere, at all times.
- Yield to pedestrians in the roadways
- Follow the speed limit, especially around people in the roadways.
Pet Awareness
If you are planning to travel with your furry companion be responsible for their well-being and safe return home. Here are some tips for pet safety:
- Leash your pet/use a harness
- Pick up after your pet
- Keep your pet hydrated
- Use reflective accessories
