Certification
Levels of Certification
There are two levels of certification an applicant may earn: full and provisional. Both levels qualify the applicant to apply for the Native American Language, PreK-12 Certificate through the Arizona Department of Education.
Full Certification – the applicant demonstrates proficiency in all four tested areas by earning a score of 80% or higher in each section of the exam.
Provisional Certification – the applicant demonstrates proficiency in the oral component of the test with a score of 80% or higher, but not in all of the other three (3) components.
Those individuals certified as provisionally proficient are required to complete additional professional development units before applying for recertification.
Retesting can be completed when the individual is ready. It is recommended that recertification occur within two years from receiving their provisional certification.
There is no set time set for recertification.
**Elders only need to pass the oral component with a score of 80% or higher to earn full-certification
