Mission Statement
To preserve the uniqueness of Native American culture and language, and to strengthen families and communities, education must start at home. To foster success in both cultures, the Tohono O’odham Education Department will support the O’odham in reaching their full potential by encouraging self-respect, broadening awareness of opportunities, and offering education and training.
Education Assistance Program/Higher Education Services (TONEAP/HES)
Education Assistance Program (formerly the T.O.N. Scholarship Program) provides financial support to enrolled tribal members pursuing an academic degree or certificate.
The Education Assistance Program offers assistance in the form of tuition/registration, books, transportation, one-time technology assistance & living stipend if eligible.
Students if/& when eligible are awarded funds for tuition, books, transportation, technology assistance and if applicable living stipend.
Every student’s potential eligible funding is dependent on the information reported in the financial needs analysis (FNA), the form is completed by the financial aid office of the student’s school/institution.
Program Qualifications
To enroll in the Tohono O’odham Nation Education Assistance Program, you must:
- Be an enrolled member of the Tohono O’odham Nation and have your Tribal Enrollment ID and/or Number readily available.
- Enrollment verification required during the initial intake process and one time every year moving forward with EAP.
- Provide proof of high school graduation or completion of the GED program.
*Include official transcripts with the graduation date. - Be currently enrolled, or plan to enroll, in a Higher Education Program that is accredited and at least one (1) year in length for certification or degree fulfillment.
- Have already submitted a Pell Grant application (FAFSA).
- High school diploma and/or official transcripts are required.
- GED certificate and/or official transcripts are required.
- Official transcripts must be sealed/unopened and mailed to EAP.
- Digital official transcripts are submitted by the school/institution.
New High School Graduates or soon to graduate:
- Contact EAP office if you have any questions regarding EAP requirements
- Apply only when official high school transcripts with graduation date is confirmed and readily available.
Important Dates
Winter/Spring semesters:
- Open enrollment – November 8th
- Enrollment closed – December 20th
Summer/Fall semesters:
- Open enrollment – May 5th
- Enrollment closed – June 30th
